Me and the birthday girl Mel
We attended a 40th Birthday party this weekend, which was 1940’s style and absolutely fabulous. Everyone made such an effort and really looked the part, especially Mel (Birthday Girl), in her genuine 1940’s dress!
It was amazing watching people enter the venue in something completely different, there was RAF pilots, Naval women, Land girls and even a woman with a tray of teacups on her head, which actually looked pretty good!
It was so fun recreating a look from the 40’s as it is not something I would usually wear but when I did find my dress in Amelia’s Attic in Salcombe I just knew it would be perfect.
It has also been really interesting researching the clothes, hair and make up and I can’t believe people would dress like this everyday as it took a lot of time to perfect the 40’s style victory rolls, they must have taken a good couple of hours to get ready every time they went out!
The venue was also decorated in a 40’s style, there was a Royal Army Naffi, a women’s glam corner and lots of British bunting plus 40’s posters on the wall and tables.
This has definitely given me some inspiration to host my own themed party for my birthday next year…maybe 1920’s and the Gatsby era!
